FAQs

Common Questions Answered for Your Peace of Mind.

Are you a law firm?

No. Sage Trust and Will is not a law firm, and we are not attorneys. We provide professionally prepared estate planning documents using attorney-drafted forms and processes. If your circumstances involve complex legal issues or require legal advice, we will gladly refer you to one of our trusted estate planning attorneys. For many individuals and families with straightforward estate planning needs, our document preparation services provide a convenient and cost-effective alternative that can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars compared to hiring an attorney directly.

What are your fees?

Our pricing depends on the type of estate planning package you choose and your individual needs. For many clients with straightforward estate planning goals, our services provide a simple and affordable alternative to hiring an attorney, often saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars while still receiving professionally prepared documents. We invite you to contact us for a free consultation so we can go over the option that’s right for you and provide a personalized quote.

What is the difference between a will and a trust

A Last Will and Testament and a Revocable Living Trust both allow you to determine how your assets will be distributed, but they work in different ways. A will generally takes effect after your death and must go through the probate process before assets can be distributed. A revocable living trust becomes effective as soon as it is created and funded, allows your assets to be managed if you become incapacitated, and typically enables your estate to avoid probate, providing greater privacy and a more efficient transfer of assets to your beneficiaries. The right choice depends on your individual goals, the complexity of your estate, and your preferences for asset management and administration.

What happens if I die without a will or trust?

If you pass away without a will or trust, you're considered to have died "intestate," and state law—not you—decides who inherits your assets. This means your property is distributed according to a fixed formula based on your family relationships (spouse, children, parents, siblings, etc.), which may not reflect what you actually would have wanted. Without these documents, your loved ones often face a longer, more expensive probate process, and there's no guarantee that assets go to the people or causes you care about most.

How are you so inexpensive?

Our goal is to make quality estate planning more accessible and affordable. We use professionally prepared document templates developed by our attorney partners, but because an attorney doesn’t need to be involved in every step for many straightforward estate planning situations, we’re able to keep our costs significantly lower. That means you receive professionally prepared documents without paying traditional attorney rates. If your situation is more complex or you’d like legal advice, we’re happy to connect you with one of our trusted attorney partners.

Do you offer probate services?

While we do not provide probate services, we have established relationships with experienced probate attorneys and would be happy to connect you with one who can assist you. If you need help navigating the probate process, we’ll gladly provide a trusted referral to an attorney who can guide you through each step.
